I have always wondered how both up and coming and already established actors find auditions and roles to apply for or people looking to appear on reality TV find upcoming shows – is it the same as with jobs, is there an ‘Actors Needed‘ section in the newspaper, are there online websites dedicated to it, do they need to ‘know someone’?
Movies especially must be a very difficult field to break in to as there are just so many more aspiring actors out there looking for work than there are available roles. I believe I once read that the acting industry is the toughest in the world and the average person will go to 100 auditions for every one role they are actually chosen for – that’s some pretty tough sounding statistics and you’d certainly need to have a thick skin to be able to cope with all the rejection and have the tenacity to then pick yourself back up, brush yourself down and move on to the next audition. It is something I know I would not be able to do, I’m far too soft and sensitive.
Apparently there are websites out there these days that look to help aspiring actors and I imagine they make things a whole lot easier, as the Internet has done for almost every field in modern life – where would we all be without it to take the leg work out of a lot of the things we do, from finding somewhere new to live or getting a new job to finding the best price on your car insurance or your weekly food shop.
So if you are looking for your big movie break it seems like the Internet is the place to be these days – there’s loads of information out there on how to have the best audition of your life and sites giving details of auditions in your area.
